How To Optimise Your Wordpress Blog.

If you use wordpress as your blogging platform like me then you need to optimise your blog for the search engines. I use wordpress due to the amount of plugins available as well as the whole platform is loved by Google. When you optimise your blog, you are basically telling the major search engines that you have content that is relevant to the meta tag settings. The keywords in your meta tags play an important role in your rank.
I use a plugin called “All In One SEO Pack”. I have found this to be the easiest interface to manage all of my optimisation for the homepage and each individual post. When i create a new post, there is a control panel at the bottom of the post page that allows me to set the title, description and keywords. This means that i can optimise each post, to make it more relevant for the search engine listing.
You can find this plugin by searching on the plugin engine that is found within your wordpress admin panel. It will install automatically and then you will have a dedicated control panel for the plugin to set your optimisation settings.
I set my homepage meta tags to target the most competitive keywords within my market as this is what i would want to rank for in the future. So for this blog i would target keywords such as “Make Money Online“. I know that it may take months or even years to get on the first page for this keyword but i enter these keywords anyway.
Then i would use the plugin to target the easier keywords within other posts. The art of a good blog is to target long tail keywords and get first page rankings for these by building backlinks to each post. At the same time i would target the homepage for the most competitive keywords within the market.
By using this plugin, i get to decide what my listings will look like within the search engines and gives me more control. All of your meta tag settings must be highly relevant to the content you write for each post, this will give you the most benefit from the actual plugin, as well as your link building efforts.
I also decided to set this plugin to use “no follow” on tags. If i did not do this then i would be wasting the link juice across my website as i want all of the linking power to go to my individual posts, homepage and categories.
